A Condition-Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) case study on “Qualitative Data Analytics for Predictive Machine Maintenance” was presented by Dheeraj Kulshrestha, President of Flairsoft Federal, at a joint conference of MFPT 2016 and ISA’s 62nd International Instrumentation Symposium. The conference was held between 24th – 26th May 2016 at the Dayton Convention Center. “Advances in Technology to Support End User Mission” was the theme of the symposium, on which paper sessions, short courses, workshops, and tutorials were based.

Dheeraj’s presentation focused on how secure data collection and analytics can allow proactive ways to ensure high availability and quality of machines in a cost effective way. Further, he mentioned, “By carefully planning qualitative data collection from machine sensors, and analyzing the same for impending system failures, we can leverage new technologies for optimal machine maintenance.”

A case study for paper mill maintenance using web service based data transfer was presented that allowed disparate systems to interchange and analyze data. Data compression techniques were utilized to deal with the large volumes of data. Web services based platform for data interchange allowed mills to integrate disparate platform from disparate operating systems.

The proposition arrived at in the presentation showed that the use of technologies (RPC & OPC) and enhanced network security (identification, authentication & authorization) can further enable readiness and maintenance effectiveness of systems and components. Application and Integration of appropriate processes and knowledge-based capabilities can help achieve the target availability, reliability, and operation and support costs of systems and components across their life cycle.

In his presentation, President and CEO of Flairsoft Federal, Mr. Dheeraj Kulshrestha, promoted that the approach of connecting knowledge base with technology, has proven results in following areas:

  • Comprehensive support with guaranteed service response time
  • Increased platform availability, readiness, and safety
  • Increased maintenance efficiency and productivity
  • Decreased maintenance support costs and logistics footprint

Flairsoft Federal has a vast data modeling and analytics background with agencies such as ABB Paper and Pulp Division, Mettler Toledo, USAF, AFRL, AFMC and Lockheed Martin IS&GS.
